About our Practice

Dr. Rebecca Fair was born and raised on the North Fork of Long Island, NY but she has made North Carolina her home since moving south in 2006.

Rebecca earned her bachelors of science in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2003. Rebecca then worked at the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory on Plum Island, NY for two years, followed by another two years of research in immunology with the North Carolina State University Department of Microbiology.

Rebecca earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.

Rebecca started her career at a mixed veterinary practice (Willowrun Veterinary Hospital in Smithfield NC) where she practiced under her maiden name Dr Hansen. During this time Rebecca developed a love for small animal orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.

Rebecca moved to Zionville in July 2020 with her husband Ray, daughter Michael and son Ed in addition to five dogs and four horses. Rebecca and Ray enjoy trail riding with their horses on the weekends.

“As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. Growing up my family only had one dog (a golden retriever named Sandy) and one cat (an orange tabby named Tiger). Of course with time this grew to include a few more cats, some guinea pigs, a rabbit, three horses (one that we still have today!), and even an iguana and a tarantula (no those were not mine!)

Looking back on all of the animals that have impacted my life, I realize that they have each helped me find this calling at a young age. When I turned sixteen I began working for our family veterinarian Dr. Bill Zitek at North Fork Animal Hospital and the rest is history.

So if you have asked me how long I have been practicing veterinary medicine, now you see why I may say “it seems like forever,” but I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
